A manatee, like this one pictured in its more usual habitat in Florida, has been seen plying the Delaware River for the past few days.
Sightings have been made from Bordentown to the Chesapeake Bay. Another manatee was spotted off Toms River during the same period, leading marine biologists to wonder what has them so far from their normal southern habitat.
Manatees are herbivores, and are not considered more dangerous than any other wild animal - generally harmless unless provoked.
